About the City Club of Hammond ...

Formed in 1990, City Club of Hammond, Louisiana has shined brightly as an example of commitment to civic pride and generosity. Spun off of a local chapter of Exchange Clubs International, City Club of Hammond decided to keep their pledges and donations in an area where the most impact and gratification could be felt, the Hammond Community. Shortly after the drafting of a charter and registering as a non-profit organization with the state of Louisiana, the Club was formed from members of the old Exchange Club chapter.   From that point on, the emphasis for all pledges and donations centered around local organizations and charities. Also, membership dues could now be fully invested into the club treasury with no money going to a national chapter.

Some of the recipients of donations include Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The American Heart Association, Local Law Enforcement Agencies, Scholarships to Southeastern Louisiana University, The Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation, American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, Options and The United Way.

Membership for City Club of Hammond started out with less than fifty members and now boasts a roster of over one-hundred fifty. Membership is attained through a secret nomination process whereas nominees are known only to the nominating member(s) and the Executive Board. Each nominating member must obtain five additional member's signatures in order to receive a full nomination for his candidate. Nominations are then brought before the Executive Board and voted on by secret ballot. Membership is not limited just to residents from Hammond, but is made up of business leaders from Ponchatoula, Independence, Fluker and Loranger as well.

The Club meets on Thursdays between the months of September and May. Board meetings are held on every first Thursday of the month, and all club business is handled during these meetings. There are several social functions each season that include the annual lobster dinner, several prime rib dinners, a Law Enforcement appreciation dinner and a fishing tournament. New functions are added each year to add variety to the schedule.

City Club of Hammond has enjoyed over a decade of fun and giving to the charities and educational institutions of Tangipahoa Parish. As we strike out into a new generation of leadership in the club, we will strive to improve our role as a cutting edge civic organization. We will achieve this goal by utilizing the dedication and talents of our new members, while acting on the strength, leadership and wisdom of those who went before us.
