November 2004

HOLY COW!!!!   I don't know where to start. So much has happened since my last news letter and there's so much on the way. I guess I'll start by recapping what's happened so far.

Jacmel Prime Rib Dinner = SUCCESS!!

About 140 turned out for this wonderful event. As usual, Paul and Chef Phil did a wonderful job and things went smoothly. This was one of the largest turnouts for this event that we've had in a while so give yourselves a hand and get ready for more fun to come.

First Regular Club Meeting = SUCCESS!!

A crowd of nearly 30 turned out for the meeting and a couple went home just a little bit richer! Darrell Amar Jr. got his meal for free (part of the new meeting attendance incentive package) and Ricky Rube walked away with $177.00 by winning the weekly drawing. Not bad for just showing up!

Prior to the regular meeting, new member nominations and elections took place. Please help me in welcoming the new members for the 2004-2005 season. The new members are Ed Burns, Joseph Anderson, Scott Sledge, Daniel Edwards, David "Crawfish" Cottrell, and Jeff Bordelon. Congratulations to these guys! If you know any of these guys, be sure to give them a personal welcome when you see them. If you don't know any of them, introduce yourself and then give them your personal welcome. Remember, we're striving for a kinder, gentler City Club.

Magical Mystery Tour = SUCCESS!!

This was great. 22 members were loaded onto vans and whisked away like tender young maidens into the night.......... all the way to Manchac. Yes, that's right, Manchac. We were treated to the finest spirits that the Beacon Lounge had to offer. As the poker machines inhaled dollar after dollar, host and fellow member Marvin Starkey entertained us like a pro. But as quickly as we descended onto that fine establishment, we were gone again. Off to the next destination.

Stop #2, Bully's. Also known as The Halfway House, this establishment was always known for the coldest beer in three parish area. Just as my luck would have it, the new owners kicked back the thermostat and now it's just the coldest beer on that block.   By this time, nonsense is running rampant and the barmaids have had their fill. Time to move on to the final destination.

Final Stop on the Tour, Bull's Corner, downtown Laplace, LA.

The food was great and the karaoke was better. I never knew that Darrell Amar Sr. had such a knack for rapping. This guy is a natural. As you might imagine, good food, good friends and good karaoke make for a good night. Everyone who attended this function agreed that it was a huge success and a lot of fun. The vans were back at The Crescent by 11:00pm and everyone arrived safely. Do yourself a favor and give the MMT a try. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone for supporting the Club and helping me to get this year kicked off. We're off to a wonderful start and I can only see things getting better as the year progresses. We've got some great new events planned and I've got a great group of Board Members helping me to accomplish the goals we've set.

If you have any questions, comments or ideas, please fee free to contact me at anytime. Be at the October 8 th meeting to help welcome the new members, 7:00pm Tope La.
